Clean Water is Not a Given

At least 2.2 million people in the United States don't have running water at home. Race is the leading indicator of water poverty: Indigenous families are 19 times less likely than white families to have access to running water in the US. On the Navajo Nation, roughly 30% of families drive for miles to haul barrels of water, just to meet their basic needs.

DigDeep is a human rights nonprofit working to change that. Their Navajo Water Project is Indigenous-led and locally staffed, and in as little as 24 hours their team can bring clean, hot and cold running water into a home that has never had it across remote parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. In 2018 it won the US Water Prize. It's the first project of its kind in the United States.
